Win the Game of Life
By Rachelle Disbennett-Lee, MS, PCC,CTC
Coaching is nothing new. People have understood the power of partnership for centuries. Just like a mentor, athletic coach or teacher, a coach supports an individual in being the best he or she can be. A coach challenges a person to discover what winning in life means personally. A coach is a partner in living the life desired, both personally and professionally. A coach is an accountability partner, holding clients accountable for what they say they want to do and supporting them in living up to their full potential.
Professional coaches have been around since the 70s and coaching really began to take hold in the late 80s. According to a recent poll, there are about 10,000 coaches in the United States and about 30 different training institutes to which one can go to learn to be a coach. Many colleges now have classes on coaching.
The International Coach Federation (ICF) is the professional association that governs coaches. The ICF is a non-profit, professional organization of personal and business coaches that exist to build, support and preserve the integrity of the coaching profession.
